  • A top quality car - 2003 Lexus ES 300

Bought the car new in 2003. Got a very good deal. Have put 150K miles on it. The last trip averaged 27-30 mpg. No major problems. The trans does still act funny every once in a while like most ES-300s. I noticed a lot of people had problems with the rear door window. Ive replaced the switch twice. It still rides like new and looks it. The value is around $10K. I wouldnt sell it for $15K

Very comfortable car. The Mark Levinson sound system is incredible. I used to use Mapquest for trips but now rely on the Nav system in the car. A little sluggish to respond, at times. Very high quality.

this is my third Lexus. I had a 97 es300, 2000 gs300 and now 2003 es300. I like this car the best, especially for the money.

  • Meets Expectations - generally... - 2003 Lexus ES 300

The ES300 has been a very high quality and reliable automobile requiring very few repairs above and beyond the required scheduled maintenance. This vehicle gets decent gas mileage and generally averages about 21-23 mpg, and also has a very quiet and comfortable ride. However, I would be remiss if I didnt mention that this specific model has a slight hesitation in acceleration that the dealership was unable to correct. The automobile also has a fairly fragile paint job that scratches easily and is susceptible to rock chips. Reading the center console displays of radio/CD and heating/AC settings can be difficult when wearing polarized sunglasses.

  • Poor car to own - 2003 Lexus ES 300

Came with bad tires out alienment. Turn lamp fell off. Floats on the road. Low to the ground getting in and out. Cruise control terrible, it down shifts and charges when going up the slightest incline. Will not return to set speed on cruise if you come to a stop or slow way down, you have to reset everytime you hit your brakes. Hoped I would like the car but I dont. Back seating cramped for leg. Air to back seat is poor. Windshield is sloped and causes extreme heat entrance into the car, Sunvisor has a light switch that should be automatic. The passenger has to hit the button in the backseat to unlock each door everytime if the passsenger wants out.

  • Great , but not like the previousES300s - 2003 Lexus ES 300

1000 miles. Has an erratic transmission shift pattern. Was present in the 2002 models as well, and was suppose to be fixed by a software change, but it isnt. It is actually dangerous. If you release your gas pedal, and press it back to where it was you get a huge thump. You also find it very hesitantif going from say 27 to 40 mph. The delay is very noticeable, dont get into an intersection, and need immediate move. First Lexus says, the fix is delayed (shelved), and now theysay end of 2003. I dont think Lexus knows how to fix this 5 speed problem. It affects power because normal gas pedal pressing doesnt allow the transmission to shift quick enough.

My wife couldnt decide between Lexus ES 330 and Toyota Avalon. Im glad we purchased the Lexus. Avalon has more power and slightly larger cabin but thats where the comparison stops. Lexus is so much more. Quiet ride, the finish and the way Lexus owners are treated at the dealership. Im sold on Lexus and I can honestly say Ill never buy another Toyota.

  • beware of this car - 2003 Lexus ES 300

I thought that when I was buying a Lexus, I was getting a reliable and quality vehicle. So I was willing to pay the high price. But for over one year the car shutters at variuos speeds. The dealer admits the problem but say that they dont know how to fix it yet. At least they fixed the warped rotors.
